In the Soulies kitchen, the weekend mornings start a little slower with hot coffee and Spongebob and always include an excellent breakfast – usually heavy on carbs. And if we can talk my daughter out of her favorite buttermilk pancakes, then it’s gonna be mine: crispy yeasted waffles.
I’ve always been a waffle fan, but after trying the ChefSteps masterpiece, my waffle game was elevated. I’ve spent many, many weekends working on this recipe, and now it’s pretty perfect.
Imagine waking up on a Saturday morning to the smell of freshly cooked bacon and eggs, accompanied by warm and crispy waffles. As you gather around the breakfast table with your loved ones, you’ll experience the joy of eating together and bonding over a delicious meal. My main problem is that these are so light and fluffy I can eat about 3 of them and still feel ready to start the day.
This recipe is the perfect way to start your day and create memories that will be cherished for years to come. So let’s get started!
Crispy Yeasted Waffles
Equipment
- Mixing Bowl
- Waffle Iron
- Whisk
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup warm milk about 110°F
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
- vegetable oil for brushing the waffle iron
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it begins to foam.
- In the bowl with the flour mixture, make a well in the center and add the eggs, yeast mixture, and melted butter. Stir until just combined.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the batter rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat. Brush the grates with vegetable oil.
- Pour the batter into the center of the hot waffle iron and spread it evenly to the edges. Cook the waffle for about 5 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and the top is golden brown.
- Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve the waffles hot with your desired toppings. Enjoy!
